Ridgewood Native Is Drew University's New Lacrosse Coach

Doug Sage was at Immaculate Heart Academy at St. Joseph's Regional High School.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — An all-state village lacrosse player is the newest boys head lacrosse coach at Drew University.

Doug Sage begins his tenure with the Rangers Monday. He had been the head coach of the University of Scranton men's team for five years, compiling a 47-35 record.

This is his second stint at Drew. He was the top assistant at Drew under veteran head coach Tom Leanos. He monitored student-athletes' academic performance, planned practices, scouted opponents and fundraised.

"Doug is the epitome of professionalism and we are delighted he will be the next leader of our men's lacrosse program," said Director of Athletics Christa Racine. "Since first working with Doug in 2009, he has certainly not lost his top-notch work ethic, his thorough knowledge of the sport, or his passion for guiding student-athletes."

Sage is director and founder of Next Level Lacrosse and Gamerz Lacrosse, which provides club teams, instructional camps and competitive leagues to the local lacrosse community.

Sage's coaching career began in 2002 as offensive coordinator at Gettysburg College. He helped lead the Bullets to a 17-2 record and the NCAA Division III National Championship game.

"I have been extremely fortunate to have played and worked for some of the best coaches in the game of lacrosse," Sage said. "I am confident that my experience has prepared me well for this new challenge in The Forest."
