Student Sexting Investigation Launched In Ridgewood
The 'serious issue' demands a 'prompt and appropriate response,' the superintendent said.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Village police are investigating possible sexting incidents involving village students.
School district officials are working together with the Ridgewood Police Department to conduct the investigation, Superintendent Daniel Fishbein said in a letter to parents Wednesday.
"Often, students participate in the sharing of provocative images of themselves without realizing the potential consequences," Fishbein said. "I want all parents to be advised that the possession and/or transmission of sexually revealing or explicit images, or any material of that nature, constitutes the very serious crime of possession and transmission of child pornography. It is illegal to create/manufacture, transfer, transmit, or possess child pornography."

Fishbein said it is imperative parents speak with their children and monitor their phone use, "which in reality is likely your phone that they are using."
Fishbein said even middle-school aged students use "risk-prone" apps and that the district educates students in the "proper use of technology and social media," and will continue to work with school staff to help them address safe technology use with our students.
