RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Police are warning residents about an email scam.

Scammers send the email pretending to be someone from the FBI and that the recipient is owed money. Personal information must be provided in order to obtain the money.

Police urge residents to not give out any personal information or make any payments to anybody claiming to be from a government agency.

Such agencies, including the FBI and IRS, will not request personal information electronically. They correspond with residents through the mail.

Anyone who receives a suspicious email or phone call should call the Ridgewood Police Department at 201-652-3900.
