NORTH JERSEY, NJ — A heat advisory is in effect for Bergen County through Friday at 8 p.m., and may be extended due to extreme heat.

"The peak of the heat wave is expected Thursday and Friday with heat indices reaching 95 to around 103 during the afternoon hours," the NWS said. "Heat indices will be more marginal for Saturday, and peak around or just over 95."

So when will the heat wave end? Not in the next week. The National Weather Service expects highs range between 88 and 93 through next Wednesday.

Because of the heat, the county of Bergen has opened the Darlington County Lake for daily swimming. Anyone can use the lake for a fee, but there are lower rates for Bergen County residents (information is here).

The county has also opened four cooling centers from 9 a.m. through 6 p.m., through Friday. Find out more about that here.
