These Bergen County Companies Are 'Environmentally Responsible': Sewerage Commission

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — You always hear about the companies that violate environmental laws. But the companies that toe the line deserve news headlines too.

For the 22nd year, the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (PVSC) is recognizing companies that operated in the previous calendar year “without having incurred a single effluent (wastewater discharge) or reporting violation.”

This year, the award winners included several Bergen County businesses. [See below list]

According to a PVSC news release:

“PVSC service area companies who qualify as Significant Industrial Users are issued Sewer Use Permits that include limits for the quality of effluent the companies may discharge into the sewer system. These companies must also monitor and report on their discharges to PVSC on a monthly basis."

Facilities that goes a full calendar year without a violation earn a PVSC Permit Compliance Award.

“Compliance is not easy or inexpensive, but these businesses do it, year after year, because they’ve made a commitment to their communities to operate in an environmentally responsible way,” PVSC Executive Director Gregory Tramontozzi said.

The Calendar Year 2016 PVSC Permit Compliance Awards recipients from Bergen County are:

20 Year Award Winners

This firm operated for the period 1/1/97 - 12/31/16 without a reporting or effluent violation.

• SIKA CORPORATION, LYNDHURST

14 Year Award Winners

This firm operated for the period 1/1/03 - 12/31/16 without a reporting or effluent violation.

• MARCAL MANUFACTURING LLC, ELMWOOD PARK

12 Year Award Winners

These firms operated for the period 1/1/05 - 12/31/16 without a reporting or effluent violation.

• STEFAN ENTERPRISES, INC., GARFIELD

Six Year Award Winners

These firms operated for the period 1/1/11 - 12/31/16 without a reporting or effluent violation.

• BIAZZO DAIRY PRODUCTS, INC., RIDGEFIELD (hauled waste)
• N.J. MEADOWLANDS COMMISSION – ERIE LANDFILL, NORTH ARLINGTON
