Threatening Call To Bergen County Hospital Leads To Arrest: Police

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A Hackensack man was arrested Tuesday for making alarming phone calls to a local hospital, police said.

Rashaune A. Herbert, 44, was charged with second-degree creating a false public alarm.

Paramus police said that they responded to Valley Hospital just before 11 a.m. Tuesday on a report of a "suspicious and potentially threatening phone call."

Hospital security said they'd gotten two such calls.

During one of the calls, the caller stated, “Tell them to have their guns ready," police said.

The Paramus Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau and Sgt. Dan DeRienzo investigated and determined the calls came from a cell phone associated with Herbert.

Herbert was found within the hospital and arrested.

He was taken to the Bergen County Jail.

"The Paramus Police Department reminds the public that threats, false alarms, and statements intended to cause fear or disrupt emergency operations are taken seriously and will be thoroughly investigated," said Police Chief Robert Guidetti.
