Thunderstorms Close Roads, Cause Flooding In Bergen County Monday: Video

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A severe thunderstorm swept through northern Bergen County on Monday night, causing flooding and road closures.

All lanes of Route 208 were closed in Wyckoff near Cedar Avenue on Monday evening due to downed wires, the state Department of Transportation said.

The town's Police Department posted this video of a fire at that location:

Two right lanes and a shoulder of Route 17 through Paramus, near Century Road, were closed due to flooding, the state reported just before 7 p.m.

And at 7:20 p.m., the state posted that all northbound lanes of Route 17 through Hawthorne at Goffle Road were also closed.

The National Weather Service in New York asked residents of Bergen and Rockland counties to submit damage reports.

A commenter in Wyckoff said she saw the fire right after a lightning strike, and residents of Ridgewood, Franklin Lakes, and Wyckoff said they saw hail.
