4-Year-Old Found Wandering Ridgewood Street In Snow: Police

The toddler wandered away from her apartment looking for her parents while her teenage siblings were watching her, police said.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — A village 4-year-old was found wandering the street during the snowstorm looking for her parents Wednesday, police said.

Police received a call at about 9:40 a.m. about a child walking near an apartment complex on Maple Avenue, said Chief Jacqueline Luthcke.

Police searched the neighborhood and determined that the girl walked down Union Street so they went door to door asking people about her, Luthcke said.

Officers found someone who knew the girl and took her back home.

The girl's parents left her at home sleeping with her teenage siblings, the chief said. The girl woke up and, unbeknownst to the siblings, put on her coat and boots and went out to look for her parents, she said.
