Bear in Ridgewood Tranquilized While in Tree

The male black bear has been tranquilized.

The bear in Ridgewood was finally tranquilized around 3 p.m. yesterday while it was still in a tree on Lake Avenue, according to NorthJersey.com. Police officers caught the bear with a net and carted it away.

The bear near Ridge Elementary School had once again climbed up a tree on Clinton Avenue yesterday afternoon after previously falling out of a tree and running through the neighborhood.

Authorities attempted to get the bear out of the tree by dropping water on the animal but the bear came down so fast he could not be captured or tranquilized.

The male black bear was previously up in a tree across the street from the school after police fired a shot rubber buckshot to scare the estimated 350 to 400 lb bear, according to NorthJersey.com. State wildlife personnel was at the location.
