Police ID Missing Woman Found Wandering In Bergen County

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Norwood Police have identified the woman who was found wandering on a North Jersey street Tuesday.

At 4 p.m. Thursday, police received a call from "Jane Doe's" family and confirmed her identity, authorities said.

"The Norwood Police want to thank all the concerned citizens that gave us leads and information to get this person back to her family," police said.

The woman was born and raised in Philadelphia and her husband is in Arizona, NBC4 reported. She had been missing for six months when a Norwood public works employees found her sitting on a bench on Livingston Street, according to the report.

Police previously said the woman told them she left the West Coast a year ago following a car accident in Washington State. She told police she's been walking the whole time and does not know her own identity.

The woman's daughters, who live in Philadelphia and Nebraska, will come and pick the woman up, Norwood Police Chief Jeffrey Kraples told NBC4.

The woman was found Tuesday on Livingston Street in Norwood, and State Police there shared her photo on Facebook in hopes that someone might know her.

On Thursday, New Jersey State Police shared the photo and more information about her, saying she told police she is a veteran who may have served in Bosnia, and that she had been walking for nearly a year.

State Police declined to answer questions about the investigation and directed a reporter to the Norwood Police Department. Kraples could not immediately be reached for additional information about what condition the woman was in when she was found, or information on how she had managed to eat or find shelter while traveling over the last year.

Information about her has been entered as a missing person in all law enforcement databases, police said.

The woman is between 40 and 50 years old, 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes. (See related: Bergen Police Trying To ID Woman Found On Street)

Norwood is located in northwest Bergen County near the New York state border.
