Shoreline Outdoor Kitchens

One life. Live it out.

For many families, some of their best memories at the Jersey Shore happen outside.

It is dinner on the patio after a day at the beach. Friends gathered around a fire as the evening gets cooler. Grandchildren running through the backyard. A game playing on the outdoor television while someone works the grill. And sometimes, it is simply sitting outside a little longer because nobody is quite ready for the night to end.

Those are the moments behind Shoreline Outdoor Kitchens.

For founder David Lang, the business has always been about much more than selling grills or building kitchen islands. It is about helping people create outdoor spaces where family and friends genuinely want to spend time together.

Lang has spent much of his career as a high school Career Landscape and Horticulture instructor, teaching students about landscape design, plant science, construction, problem-solving and the hands-on skills involved in transforming outdoor environments.

He has also spent decades as a business owner working around construction and home improvement.

Shoreline brought those worlds together.

“I have always enjoyed creating things and seeing a project come together,” Lang says. “But what I enjoy even more is seeing how people use the space afterward. You are not just building something. You are creating a place where people are going to spend time with their families and friends.”

From Outdoor Kitchens to Outdoor Living

Shoreline Outdoor Kitchens began with a very specific idea: provide South Jersey homeowners with high-quality outdoor kitchens designed to hold up in the demanding coastal environment.

But it did not take long for that idea to grow.

Customers who wanted an outdoor kitchen were also thinking about shade. They wanted comfortable places to sit. They wanted fire features, outdoor heating and spaces that could be used later into the fall. They wanted their patios and backyards to feel less like separate areas and more like true extensions of their homes.

What started as an outdoor kitchen company has grown into an outdoor living company.

Today, Shoreline helps homeowners bring those pieces together with outdoor kitchens, premium louvered pergolas, fire features, outdoor heating, pizza ovens, griddles and other products designed around the way people actually live outside.

“The kitchen might be where the conversation starts,” Lang says, “but usually what people really want is a place where everyone can gather.”

That distinction has become important to the company.

Shoreline does not want homeowners to simply choose products from a catalog. The goal is to understand how a family wants to use its property and then help create an outdoor environment around that lifestyle.

The Shore Is More Than a Summer Season

For generations, Labor Day unofficially marked the end of summer at the Jersey Shore. Patio furniture was covered, grills were put away and backyards became something to think about again the following spring.

That is changing.

Homeowners are increasingly looking for ways to enjoy their outdoor spaces beyond July and August. Louvered pergolas provide shade when the sun is strong and protection when the weather changes. Fire features and outdoor heating make cool evenings more comfortable. Outdoor kitchens allow families to cook, entertain and gather without constantly moving the party indoors.

For owners of second homes in particular, extending the outdoor season can mean getting much more enjoyment from the property they already love.

“You wait all year to be at the Shore,” Lang says. “Why should enjoying your outdoor space end just because summer is over?”

That philosophy is reflected in a simple message Shoreline has adopted:

One life. Live it Out

It is not meant simply as a slogan. It reflects Lang’s belief that a home should help people enjoy the time they have together.

“We are all busy,” he says. “Families get pulled in a hundred different directions. If you can create a place at home where everyone actually wants to gather, there is value in that.”

Built Around Trust

For Lang, building Shoreline has also meant building something personal.

As a family-run local business, there is no large corporate office separating the customer from the people responsible for the project.

Lang wants customers to be able to ask questions, talk through ideas and feel comfortable saying when something does—or does not—feel right for their home.

“My name is attached to this company,” he says. “I want people to know who we are and what we are passionate about. I want to be able to see a customer five years from now and feel good about what we did for them.”

That philosophy influences the products Shoreline chooses to offer as well.

Outdoor products at the Jersey Shore face conditions that many inland environments simply do not. Salt air, moisture, wind and year-round exposure can quickly reveal the difference between something designed primarily to look good in a showroom and something designed to last.

That is why durability has become such an important part of Shoreline’s identity.

Built for the Shore. Built to Last.

The phrase refers to the products, but Lang believes it should also describe the business itself.

“We want long-term customers and long-term relationships,” he says. “Sometimes that means telling someone that a certain product is not the right choice for them. I would rather earn somebody’s trust than make one sale.”

Creating the Outdoor Room

The traditional backyard is changing.

Instead of a grill sitting at the edge of a patio, homeowners increasingly envision complete outdoor rooms—places with cooking, dining, seating, shade and warmth all working together.

Some homeowners prefer a built-in kitchen with the permanence and character of stone, stucco or architectural finishes. Others gravitate toward clean, contemporary modular cabinetry that feels more like high-end outdoor furniture.

Some want a pergola covering the entire entertainment area. Others simply want a fire feature and a comfortable place to sit after dinner.

There is no single formula.

And that is exactly what Lang enjoys about the work.

His background in landscape and horticulture taught him to look at an outdoor space as a whole rather than as a collection of individual products. How people move through a space matters. Where they sit matters. Shade matters. Plantings matter. The relationship between the house and the backyard matters.

“The outdoor kitchen should not look like somebody dropped an appliance in the yard,” Lang says. “Everything should feel like it belongs there.”

A New Chapter Built on an Old Passion

In many ways, Shoreline Outdoor Kitchens represents the continuation of work Lang has been doing throughout his career.

Teaching landscape and horticulture has allowed him to pass practical skills to young people and show students the satisfaction that comes from designing and building something tangible.

Running a business has taught him the value of relationships, communication and standing behind your work.

And Shoreline has given him the opportunity to combine those experiences with a part of South Jersey that means a great deal to him.

“I still get excited seeing an idea become real,” Lang says. “Whether it is a student completing a project or a homeowner seeing their backyard come together, there is something rewarding about creating something that was not there before.”

The scale may be different, but the principle is much the same.

Do good work.

Treat people fairly.

Build something that lasts.

And create places where people can enjoy a little more time together.

That is what Shoreline Outdoor Kitchens hopes to bring to homes throughout South Jersey and the Shore.

Because an outdoor space is not really about the kitchen, the pergola or the fire pit.

It is about what happens there.

One life. Live it out.
