School crossing guards typically work about 15 to 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday during the regular school year, helping elementary, middle and high school students at designated locations throughout the borough.

Typical shifts run from about 7:15 to 8:45 a.m. and 2:15 to 3:45 p.m., though times vary by school and may change on half-days.

They also must be U.S. citizens and New Jersey residents with a valid driver's license. Candidates are required to pass a criminal history and background check, hearing test and medical physical, along with two hours of classroom training and 20 hours of on-the-job training.

Paid training, testing and equipment will be provided, and successful applicants must complete a six-month probationary period. Applicants must also be able to work in inclement weather.

"We are looking for dependable individuals who are interested in serving the community and helping keep our children safe before and after school," police said.
