Around Town: Oradell Special Events Hosts Fireworks Tonight

A weekly glance at what you need to know from Borough Departments

The July 4 holiday weekend begins tonight when the Oradell Special Events Committee host a fireworks display at Memorial Field at 9:15pm for a fireworks display (rain day July 2) with hot dogs, pizza, ice cream, kettle-corn and beverages will be available. 

River Edge Celebrations start on Sunday in Veteran’s Memorial Park with food and drink starting at 6:30pm and entertainment by  “Soul Finger” featuring River Edge resident Jeanie Marri beginning at 7:30pm under the pavilion.  The menu for the night includes: shrimp in a basket, chicken nuggets, fish and chips, foot-long hot dogs, french fries, sweet potato fries, ice cream and drinks.

Borough parades start with Oradell at 9am on Oradell Avenue and 3rd Street followed by games and pony rides at Memorial Field. Troop 36 will be selling hot dogs and drinks. The River Edge parade kicks off at 11am and will wind its way along Bogert Road and over to the Family Fair in Memorial Park. The Family Fair will run from 12:30 to 4:30pm. Rides, games, music, food and beverages will be available, along with a wide selection of vendors.

The Friends of the River Edge Library will hold their annual Mini Book Sale on Monday, July 4th at the Friends Garage (next to the River Edge Library) on the corner of Elm and Continental Avenue from 12 to 4pm.  Great children's books and summer reading!  All proceeds benefit the River Edge Library in areas such as children and adult programs.

  • Dog and Cat Licenses

In Oradell, if you forgot to renew your dog and cat licenses, you will be charged an additional $5 per month, per animal fine. All spayed or neutered animals have a $10 license fee, while all others are $15.

River Edge residents that have not registered their cats and dogs with the town will now have to pay a $6 penalty fee. Checks should be made payable to the Borough of River Edge and sent to the Health Department, 750 Kinderkamack Road, River Edge, NJ 07661. Fees for a neutered cat is $6 per animal or $8 for a non-neutered feline. Neutered dogs are $11 and non-neutered canines are $14.

  • DPW

The Oradell Recycling Center at the Department of Public Works will be open the first and third Saturday of the month, 9am to 12pm. The dumpsters will be available to Oradell residents for the disposal of the following items: household garbage, newspapers, corrugated, cardboard boxes, cereal boxes, commingled recyclable materials cans & bottles, metal/white goods, brush, concrete and garden debris.

  • Ambulance Corp

If you would like to join the New Milford/Oradell Volunteer Ambulance Corps or the River Edge Volunteer Ambulance Corp, feel free to come talk to the members.

  • Fire Department

The River Edge and Oradell fire departments are always looking for additional members from Cadets, Juniors to Regular members. For more information, contact the River Edge Co. 1 at 201-599-7333 or Co. 2 at 201-487-2817or stop by either firehouse on Tuesday night or Sunday morning; OFD can be reached at 201-261-5455 or by visiting the firehouse on Monday evenings.

  • Police

Oradell Police are accepting applications for School Crossing Guards and Auxiliary Police. Applications may be picked up at Police Headquarters by contacting Lt. Michael Oslacky (Aux) and Officer David Gangemi (Guards).

To serve as a River Edge Auxiliary Police officer, contact Police Headquarters at 201-262-1233 or in person.

Residents who believe they have signed up with either NIXLE or SwiftReach to receive emergency notifications from either River Edge or Oradell should not assume they are on the contact list.
