Girl Scout Holding Donation Drive For Gold Award

ORADELL, N.J. — A local Girl Scout is trying to raise awareness about a program that provides ski and snowboarding lessons to children and adults with disabilities.

Caitlyn Devine, a junior at River Dell High School, volunteers with the Adaptive Sports Foundation, a nonprofit that provides life-changing experiences for adults and children with physical and cognitive disabilities.

Devine is hosting an information session and charity drive for the Windham, N.Y. organization Thursday at 7 p.m. at Oradell Borough Hall. She will be giving a presentation about the organization and collecting items on the group's wishlist.

"For anyone that has or knows someone with a disability, this is a life changing experience for them because it allows them to participate in something that was previously inaccessible to them," Devine said. "As I volunteer, I also know how rewarding it is to be involved with this organization because I get to share my passion for skiing with others."

Devine will be collecting donations for the group at the meeting. Some of the items needed are:

  • White copy paper
  • Pens
  • Toilet paper
  • Paper towels
  • Paper plates
  • Hand warmers
  • Ski goggles
  • Ski gloves
  • Mittens
  • Neck gators
  • New ski socks

The goggles, glvoes, mittens and neck gators may be gently used.
