RUMSON-SEA BRIGHT, NJ — Route 36 lane closures are set to continue Friday and Monday between the Rumson Road/CR 520 Bridge over the Shrewsbury River and Peninsula Avenue in Sea Bright, as a county bridge project nears completion.
From 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Friday and again on Monday, at the same time, a single lane on Route 36 is scheduled to be closed with traffic shifted from the Rumson Road/CR 520 Bridge over the Shrewsbury River to Peninsula Avenue.
One lane in each direction will be maintained during construction.
The closure is necessary for final milling and paving, the NJ Department of Transportation said.
This is a continuation of work that began last week. Drivers are advised to slow down, use caution, and expect delays when driving through the work zone.
This work is part of a $110 million state and federally funded county project that replaced the Rumson Road/CR 520 movable bridge over the Shrewsbury River between Rumson and Sea Bright. The new bridge opened to traffic last summer.
Improvements include a new traffic signal at the intersection of Route 36 in Sea Bright, improvements to roadways, drainage, curb, sidewalk, highway lighting and the parks in both Sea Bright and Rumson.
Over the next few months, there will be landscaping and other minor work to complete the project.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website 511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
