RUMSON, NJ — Firefighters responded to a home on the Avenue of Two Rivers after lightning appeared to have sparked a fire there on Friday.
Shortly before 7 p.m. on Friday, Oceanic Hook & Ladder Fire Co. and Rumson Fire Co. of the Rumson Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to a home on the Avenue of Two Rivers for a report of a house fire.
Assistant Fire Chief Mike Trivett arrived on scene and saw fire burning through the roof of the home.
According to authorities, lightning appeared to have struck a cupola on the roof, setting it on fire.
Both Rumson Fire and Oceanic Hook and Ladder arrived within minutes of the call and made an initial attack, quickly knocking down the fire.
Sea Bright FD's ladder assisted with roof operations, and fire companies from Little Silver, Fair Haven, Tinton Falls and Middletown also assisted.
Rumson and Fair Haven's EMS squads stood by and assisted with rehab.
The Rumson and Monmouth County Fire Marshals' Office handled the fire investigation.
