FAIR HAVEN, NJ — The Fair Haven Public Library is set to temporarily close for renovations, the borough recently announced.
Effective October 5, the library will close for 4-6 weeks to undergo renovations. Details are as follows:
How Long Will The Library Close?
The borough's current estimated project timeline calls for the library to be closed for approximately four to six (4 - 6) weeks.
During this closure, renovations will include:
Once that work is complete, the borough's furniture vendor will deliver and install new shelving, tables and seating.
"We know that even a temporary closure can be an inconvenience, and we sincerely appreciate your patience while the work is underway," borough officials said. "There's a lot happening behind the scenes to transform our space...We can't wait to see it all come together!"
What To Do With Book Returns During The Closure
The library will check books out to patrons up until Friday, Oct. 2.
Books may be returned in the library's orange "Book Return" receptacle located in the vestibule of Borough Hall and/or at Eastern Branch.
The library will also be extending due dates until reopening, and any late fees will be forgiven.
Where To Pick Up Books & Library Materials In The Meantime
While the library is closed, patrons can take advantage of the resources available through the Monmouth County Library.
A Monmouth County Library card can be obtained at the Eastern Branch in Shrewsbury (be sure to bring proof of Fair Haven residency).
Once you have your card, you'll be able to check out and return books and other materials there until the library reopens.
The Monmouth County Library Eastern Branch is located at 1001 NJ-35 in Shrewsbury, next to the Trader Joe's shopping center.

When Will The Library Reopen?
The library is currently planning to reopen by the middle of November.
"We'll keep the community updated as the project progresses and will share any changes to the anticipated reopening date," officials said.
Ongoing Programming At The Library
While the library is closed for renovations, most of the library's weekly and monthly programs will continue at alternate locations throughout town (primarily the Fair Haven Community Center, 35 Fisk Street, unless otherwise noted)
How Is The Library Renovation Being Funded?
The cost of the project is being shared by the Borough of Fair Haven, patrons and Fair Haven residents who responded to the Friends of the Fair Haven Public Library campaign appeal, and library reserves that have been built up over the years, officials said.
Before the library closes, patrons are invited to stop by the library to take a look at the remodeled floor plan and drawings and get a preview of what's to come. The plans are also available here.
