Atlantic Highlands Police Blotter, Dec. 20 - Jan. 20

People were arrested for driving on Rt. 36 with marijuana, and a group of kids and an adult were told to stay off the ice Sunday, Jan. 8.

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ — Released by the Atlantic Highlands police, here is the police blotter in that town from Dec. 20, 2017 - Jan. 20, 2018. In that time period, there were 891 calls for service in Atlantic Highlands:

On December 20, 2017 at 12:03 a.m., Patrolman Gurian stopped John Denman, 26, Leonardo, for speeding on Memorial Parkway. Subsequent to the stop Denman was arrested and charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of a controlled dangerous substance while operating a motor vehicle.

On December 23, 2017 at 10:59 p.m., Patrolman Sodon stopped Eric Yarbrough Jr., 26, Long Branch, for a motor vehicle violation on Highway 36. Subsequent to the stop Yarbrough Jr. was arrested and charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana as well as driving with no insurance and other motor vehicle violations.

On December 23, 2017 at 6:03 p.m., Patrolman Sodon and Sergeant Phair were dispatched to the intersection of Bay Avenue and Avenue A in reference to an intoxicated female who stumbled into a tree and was crawling in the grass. The officers checked the area and were unable to locate the subject.

On December 24, 2017 at 1:12 a.m. police headquarters received numerous calls in reference to a subject on East Mount Avenue screaming for help. Patrolmen Morgan and Sodon were able to locate a 21-year-old resident of Rumson who advised he had been drinking at a party and was left behind by his friends. Same advised his phone was dead and he was looking for a way to get home. Officers were able to contact a taxi to transport the subject home.

On January 3, 2018 at 4:59 p.m., officers were dispatched to a Bayshore Plaza business in reference to a shoplifter. Store management advised the subject was a repeat offender who was caught attempting to shoplift 10 items totaling $47.49. A male subject, age 40, Atlantic Highlands, was arrested by Sergeant Reinert and Patrolman Sodon. The subject was charged with shoplifting and later transported to the hospital for crisis evaluation after he stated he wanted to harm himself.

On January 7, 2018 at 8:45 p.m., Sergeant Doherty and Patrolman Morgan responded to an Atlantic Highlands residence after a caller reported she was assaulted by her boyfriend. Responding officers were advised by the caller that she was outside of the residence and that she owned a handgun, which was accessible to her boyfriend who was inside the residence. Officers were able to take a 43-year-old male subject into custody without incident after investigation revealed he choked and assaulted the victim.The subject was later released after being served with a complaint for simple assault and a temporary restraining order.

On January 7, 2018 at 10:00 p.m., Sergeant Doherty and Patrolman Morgan responded to an Ocean Boulevard residence after the caller reported a male friend refused to leave the residence and was throwing things around. Prior to the officer’s arrival the caller reported the subject left residence. Officers located the male subject leaving the area and he advised that he left the residence when asked to do so. The female caller advised officer’s that she did not wish to pursue the matter any further.

On January 8, 2018 at 3:05 p.m., Atlantic Highlands Police Chief Jerry Vasto observed a group of juveniles with a parent walking onto the bay which was frozen. The group was advised of the dangers of being on the ice and sent on their way.

On January 14, 2018 at 3:24 a.m., Patrolman Zudonyi was patrolling West Washington Avenue when he came across a parked vehicle with extensive front end damage. As a result of Patrolman Zudonyi’s investigation, Thomas D. Wolfe Jr., age 68, Leonardo, was charged with careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, and several other motor vehicle violations.
