Canvas Instructor Holly Suzanne Rader Exhibits Artwork Through April 26

It Girl, Holly Suzanne Rader, is an artist interested in fashion and a self-proclaimed fashionista making art.  A classically trained portrait painter, Rader has in recent years evolved into a sculptor and mixed media artist.  Her artwork, now on view at Exhibit No. 9 Gallery in Asbury Park through April 26, includes paintings of beautiful women dressed in street collage fashion and fashion sculptures made of paper mache.

An instructor at Canvas Studio Art in Rumson, “Miss Suzanne” as she is affectionately known, teaches budding designers about the creative end of fashion.  An MFA graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Rader has been traveling and exhibiting her artwork since she graduated. She has received numerous commissions for her paintings and sculptures including a painting for the 2006 SCAD Fashion Gala honoring designer Vera Wang and mixed media fiber works for the 2010 SCAD installation at their Hong Kong Campus.

A working artist, Rader also loves teaching. She explains, “as long as I can remember, I have always loved drawing, cutting, gluing, stapling and making paper dolls. In my classes, I hope to share my love of fashion with even the most novice designers.  I teach them to draw, hand sew and design clothing. The paper mache fashions are quite messy but lots of fun.  And, by the end of each session, each student takes home an artistic and stylish creation.”

Rader’s work is on view at Exhibit No. 9, 550-102 Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park. Budding fashionistas can register for her classes and summer camps at canvasstudioart.com. Fashion Mix 1, for ages 6 and up, is now offered on Fridays at 4 pm. Fashion Mix 2, for artists age 9 and up is now offered on Thursdays at 6 pm.  This summer, Fashion Week Junior Camp, for ages 6 and up, is offered July 14-17.  Fashion Week Senior Camp, for ages 9 and up, runs from July 28-31.   For more information about CANVAS classes and camps, contact 732-383-7927 or info@canvasstudioart.com.
