Car Stolen, 4 Other Attempted Car Thefts Reported In Rumson, Police Say

RUMSON, NJ — Rumson Police are issuing safety reminders to residents amidst a recent rise in car theft-related incidents.

According to Rumson Police, there were four attempted car thefts between the hours of 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

In addition to these attempted thefts, police said a fifth car was confirmed stolen.

"The Rumson Police Department would like to remind residents to remove their key fobs and valuables from all vehicles and lock your cars!" the department said in an online post.

Suspicious activity can be reported to the police department at 732-842-0500 or by calling 911.

Some additional safety reminders from Rumson Police include:

• Always lock your vehicle doors and close your windows, even for a minute
• Never leave your keys in the car or hide a spare key inside or outside the vehicle
• Park in well-lit areas and use garages whenever possible
• Do not leave valuables, electronics, or packages in plain sight
• If you see suspicious activity or someone tampering with a vehicle, report it. You could prevent a crime.
