Fair Haven Woman Among Those In Lacrosse Championships

The borough added its support to Fair Haven's Megan Douty , competing in the 2022 Women's Lacrosse World Championship, in a website post.

FAIR HAVEN, NJ—The borough sent its own good luck wishes to Megan Douty, who will be competing in the 2022 Women's Lacrosse World Championship that gets underway this week at Towson University in Maryland.

The quadrennial competition, which begins on June 29 and continues through July 9, is being held in the United States for the first time since 2005, the statement says.

Fair Haven's Douty is a member of the U.S. National Team and won gold medals at the 2017 World Cup and World Games. She has also played professionally in the WPLL with the New England Command and won the WPLL inaugural season championship, the website said.

USA Lacrosse is the host organization for the event, which is being held for the 11th time since 1982. This is just the third time that it has been held in the United States. The women's world championship was previously held in Swarthmore, Pa. (1986) and Annapolis, Md. (2005).

No nation has ever won the women's world championship on home soil, but the United States is hoping to end that trend. The U.S. fell to Australia in the gold medal game in 1986 and 2005, but the U.S. has won the last three world championships, defeating Australia in the gold medal game in 2009 in the Czech Republic, beating host Canada in 2013 and downing Canada in 2017 in England, the website says.

The U.S. enters this year's championship as the No. 1 seed and is followed by Canada, England, Australia, Scotland, Israel, Wales, New Zealand, Japan and the Czech Republic in the top 10.
