HOW a BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN FAN CLUB MADE A DIFFERENCE ON HIS BIRTHDAY!

Bruce Springsteen fans make a difference on his birthday contributing to FoodBank

As part of a unique birthday gift for New Jersey based-musician Bruce Springsteen, a Facebook Springsteen fan site called Brucebook, has raised close to $9,000.00 for The Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Beginning on Thursday, September 22, on the eve of Springsteen's birthday, and ending at 5:00 pm Monday, September 26, members of the "Brucebook" site gave contributions of all sizes as part of the "Happy Birthday Bruce Foodbank Fundraiser."

In total, $8,630.00 dollars was raised by Brucebook members and other Springsteen fans. The money will go to help feed struggling families in Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

Brucebook organizers, led by Executive Director John J. Kelly, wanted to do "something special" to honor the just-turned 67 year old rocker and brand new author of the autobiography, Born To Run. "We really wanted to do something to honor Bruce on his 67th birthday, and felt that this would be something that he would really appreciate," said John J. Kelly.

Diana Flippo, of The Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties that the amount raised will provide 26,000 meals to those in need. "Your support in honoring Bruce Springsteen's Birthday went beyond what we imagined in such a short time" said Flippo in a post on the Brucebook site.

Founded in 2010, Brucebook has this year grown tremendously in membership to now include over 7,000 members from all over the world. The fundraising goal of $6,700.00 to symbolize Springsteen's 67th birthday, was not only reached but surpassed by nearly $2,000.00.

"We couldn't be any more pleased with the results considering the fact that this fundraiser was a bit of a "last minute" idea," said Kelly. "We hope to make this an annual event on Bruce's birthday and we hope to raise even more for the Foodbank next year."

Most of the donations were made to the foodbank's website, www.foodbankmoc.org.
