Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School has announced that Katherine (Katie) Godfrey has earned the honor of serving as Valedictorian for the graduating Class of 2014. As Class Valedictorian she will address those assembled at the RFH graduation ceremony to be held at Monmouth University on June 20.
A member of both the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society, Katie recently received the President's Gold Award for Academic Excellence. She also earned the RFH World Language Department Achievement in Spanish Award, the Helen L. Poka Award for outstanding performance in mathematics and science, The American Association of University Women Award (given to the top female math student), and the United States Marine Corps Scholastic Excellence Award.
During her junior year at RFH, Katie was the recipient of the Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar Award as well as the Rensselaer Medal awarded to outstanding math and science students by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.
In addition to maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or above to attain High Honor Roll status throughout high school, Katie was active in RFH clubs and organizations. She was a member of the Student Ambassadors, Science League, Math League, Scientific Frontier Club, Psychology Club, Key Club, Environmental Club, and International Club.
Her activities outside of school included participating in the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore and serving as Secretary of the Two River Juniorettes, a high school girls' organization sponsored by the Rumson Women's Club.
Katie will be attending Rutgers University in New Brunswick, where she plans to study biochemistry. She received a full, four-year academic scholarship known as the Presidential Scholarship from Rutgers University, where she is enrolled in the School of Arts and Sciences Honors Program.
Katie is the daughter of Dawn and Ken Godfrey of Fair Haven.
