Local Student Trying to Reach Relay For Life Fundraising Goal of $5,000

I am currently a sophomore at Boston College, originally from Rumson, NJ. I am also a Co-Chair on the Corporate Sponsorship Committee and one of the Event Chairs for BC Relay For Life. Believe it or not, even though our event isn’t until April 1, 2016, we have been planning this year’s event since June. Earlier in the year, I went on an all-day retreat with the other committee chairs. We went to the HOPE Lodge near campus, a place where cancer patients can stay for free while they receive treatment. To say that I learned a lot would be an understatement. The most mind-blowing fact I learned is that 1/2 of all cancer-related deaths are preventable. The American Cancer Society is doing amazing things to assist with research, care, and so much more.

That being said, BC Relay For Life has goals bigger than ever this year. We are trying to raise $180,000. Yes, that’s right.

Last year, I personally raised $3,156. I couldn’t have done this without the support of friends and family. I am reaching out to you, because I am more determined than ever to raise as much money as I possibly can. Once again, I am Relaying for my grandmother, Mathilde Altinger, who passed away from gastric cancer in November 2011. My grandmother was incredibly strong and could put a smile on anyone’s face. Her grandchildren, children, husband, and neighbors loved her dearly. Whenever we were together, there were endless amounts of fun. It was a shame to watch cancer take over her body. Despite this disease, my grandmother never complained or pouted. I would never wish anyone to go through the difficulties she did. By participating in Relay For Life I hope to decrease the amount of people who get diagnosed with this awful disease, help find a cure, and raise awareness of the event for the Rumson-Fair Haven community.

My personal goal this year is $5,000. I hope to not only reach it, but surpass it. I have raised $3,400 so far, but with only 48 days to go, I need all the support I can get I need your help!
