Man Nearly Drowns At Sandy Hook Sunday

The near-drowning happened near B Beach at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 25. The adult man was swimming at an unlifeguarded beach on the bayside.

HIGHLANDS, NJ — A man nearly fatally drowned while swimming at a bayside beach at Gateway National Park/Sandy Hook Sunday, Aug. 25, a spokeswoman for the National Park Service confirmed.

The near-drowning happened near B Beach at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The adult man was swimming at an unlifeguarded beach on the bayside when he became distressed and had to be pulled from the water by lifeguards.

EMTs were called to the scene, and the man appeared to be conscious, but was coughing up blood when he was taken to an ambulance, according to TAP Into. He was taken to a nearby hospital.
