No Issues Reported At Sandy Hook Beaches This Weekend
Beaches at Sandy Hook were open this past weekend and the National Park Service reports no issues with beach crowding or overcapacity.
HIGHLANDS, NJ — We know you've heard about Belmar, but the National Park Service reports no issues with beach crowding or overcapacity at Sandy Hook this past weekend. (Gov. Murphy also said the camera angles at Belmar were deceiving, and more accurate drone footage showed people safely distancing.)
A spokeswoman for the National Park Service said Sandy Hook parking lots did close for about an hour on Saturday once they reached capacity, but added that she did not hear of any issues in the park.
After closing Sandy Hook on April 8, Gateway National Recreation Area reopened — in a limited capacity — on Saturday, May 9. The beaches are only open to 50 percent capacity, so if you want to get a parking spot, get there early in the day.
