RUMSON, NJ — After 27 years in the local community, the Salt Creek Grille will soon be replaced by a popular steak and seafood restaurant.
Roots Steakhouse, which currently has four locations throughout New Jersey, will open its fifth NJ location where the Salt Creek Grille used to be on Bingham Avenue.
While an opening date hasn’t been set for the new steakhouse yet, renovations are currently underway, according to a report from the Asbury Park Press.

According to their website, the “Roots” name comes from the iconic Roots clothing store, which was the location of the first Roots Steakhouse in Summit, NJ, in 2006.
Menu items at the steakhouse range from Maine lobster bites to filet mignon, east coast halibut, lobster cocktails, Beef Wellington and more.
“Diners can expect delicious USDA aged prime beef sourced from the highest quality ranches in the mid-west,” the steakhouse said of their menu options. “...We pride ourselves on only center cut beef and cooked at 1,800 degrees to ensure our guests the best product possible.”
News of Roots Steakhouse opening its fifth New Jersey location comes after the Salt Creek Grille announced the impending closure of its Rumson location in November 2025.
In an online statement, the restaurant said it had reached the end of its lease and would close its doors on Dec. 31 after “27 incredible years.”
The announcement came just a month after they announced the closure of their Princeton location.
“While this chapter is coming to an end, the memories we’ve created together will last a lifetime,” the Grille said in their statement.
“To our loyal patrons who’ve celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, first dates and quiet Tuesday nights with us – thank you,” the statement continued. “Your laughter, stories, and support have filled this space with warmth and heart.”
