Rumson-Fair Haven Graduate Drafted By Phillies

RUMSON-FAIR HAVEN, NJ — A graduate of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School has been drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies.

Reece Moroney, a shortstop who graduated from RFH and went on to play for the University of Rhode Island, was the 309th overall pick taken in the draft's 10th round.

According to a report from MLB.com, Moroney was a .336 hitter over his three seasons with the university and led the Atlantic 10 Conference with 90 hits in 57 games as a junior this spring.

Though he only hit three homers in 2026, he finished the season with a career-best .370 average, and his glove and arm are expected to be able to play "from anywhere on the dirt," the report said.

“Defense has always been my best tool,” he told Shore Sports Insider. “I played a handful of games at a few positions at RFH, but I always saw myself as a shortstop."

Prior to his time at the University of Rhode Island, Moroney made a name for himself at RFH as well, carrying a .368 average over three seasons with the school and as a two-time sectional winner.

According to his athlete profile with the University of Rhode Island, Moroney's favorite athlete is Luis Arraez and his favorite team is the New York Yankees.
