Rumson Oceanic Bridge Replacement Public Comment Deadline Looms

Residents have limited time to weigh in on the Oceanic Bridge replacement project and review proposed design changes.

RUMSON, NJ — Residents have until Friday, Oct. 30 to submit comments on the proposed Oceanic Bridge replacement project.

According to the Borough of Rumson, Monmouth County and the Oceanic Bridge Project Team recently presented updates on the proposed bridge replacement, including design plans and options for connecting the bridge's shared-use path to Victory Park.

As Patch previously reported, the plans also outline three options for connecting the replacement bridge to Victory Park.

The county is considering several configurations that could affect restaurant parking, private property or the river, with some potentially allowing pedestrians to pass beneath the bridge at Bingham Avenue without crossing traffic and including stairs.

Option A would extend a 14-foot path from Bingham Avenue to River Road and Victory Park, eliminating five parking spaces, converting some spaces to angled parking and changing the driveway to one-way traffic.

Option B would provide a narrower path from Bingham Avenue to Hunt Street, connecting pedestrians to Victory Park while reducing impacts on the existing parking lot.

Option C would create a riverfront path connecting to Washington Street, requiring ramps to accommodate the approximately 17-foot height of the bridge's shared-use path.

The project remains in preliminary engineering, expected to continue through fall 2027. Final design is anticipated to begin in 2028, with construction dates still undetermined.

Residents can review presentation materials, maps and project documents before the deadline.

Comments can be emailed to MonmouthCountyOceanicBridge@gmail.com or submitted through the project website.

Written comments may also be mailed to Michael Ruggiero, P.E., Principal Bridge Engineer/County Project Manager, Monmouth County Division of Engineering, Hall of Records Annex, 1 East Main Street, 3rd Floor, Freehold, NJ 07728.

The project team is planning to post a meeting summary after the 30-day comment period.
