Rumson School Bond Referendum Looms: What Taxpayers Should Know

The Rumson School District is hosting two public sessions to explain proposed school improvements and their estimated costs.

RUMSON, NJ — Rumson residents will have two opportunities this month to learn more about a school bond referendum before heading to the polls.

The Rumson School District announced on Facebook that information sessions will be held Thursday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 29, at 9:15 a.m. Both will take place in the district's multipurpose room, identified as the MPR.

Voters will decide on the proposed improvements Tuesday, Nov. 3, with polls open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The referendum would fund a new classroom wing at Deane-Porter for music, art, science and support services, along with two additional classrooms at Forrestdale.

Other proposed improvements include roof and entrance work at Deane-Porter, bathroom renovations at both schools and relocation of the maintenance facility.

According to the district's informational flyer, the estimated cost would be $28 per month for a Rumson home with an average assessed value of $2.25 million.

Superintendent Dr. John E. Bornmann described the proposal as "a strategic approach" to maintaining educational quality while addressing enrollment demands.
