$1 Million To Be Invested In New Scotch Plains Water Main

New Jersey American Water announced it will replace approximately 2,500 feet of an aging water main in Scotch Plains starting next week.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — New Jersey American Water will replace approximately 2,500 feet of an aging water main in Scotch Plains starting next week, investing $1 million in the project.

Besides replacing the water main, the project includes replacing seven fire hydrants and 40 utility-owned service lines along the pipeline route.

This water main was installed back in the 1920s and is in need of a replacement. American Water will upgrade the old 6-inch cast iron water lines with new 8- and 12-inch ductile iron main along the following streets:

  • Cooper Road from Terrill Road to Heritage Lane
  • Terrill Road from Cooper Road to Stoneleigh Drive
  • Raritan Road from Lamberts Mill Road to Winding Brook Way

According to American Water, this $1 million investment will help advance water service reliability and increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection in Scotch Plains.

This improvement is part of New Jersey American Water’s multimillion-dollar initiative to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life in more than 100 communities across the state.

Vollers Excavating and Construction, Inc. will begin work on this project starting Tuesday and expects to be done by the end of April, weather permitting. Work hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Work outside of these hours is not expected unless required to maintain the project schedule. Final street restorations are expected to be completed in the summer of 2022.

New Jersey American Water encourages customers to sign up for alerts through their MyWater account and follow the company on Facebook and Twitter to receive project updates.

Traffic restrictions and alternating traffic patterns are likely to occur within work hours. All emergency vehicles and local traffic will be allowed access during construction.

American Water advises drivers and pedestrians to take caution in the vicinity of work sites.
