13 and older FSPY Swimmers take 4th Place

at 2024 NJ YMCA State Championships

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) swim team was represented by 56 of their 13 years and older swimmers at the 2024 NJ YMCA State Championships. The swim meet took place from March 7-10 at Franklin & Marshall College, with over 20 teams from around the state in attendance. The team combined for a fantastic overall 4th place, with the FSPY boys taking 5th and the FSPY girls finishing 3rd. The meet was a great showcase of all the hard work these swimmers have put in throughout the long season, with plenty of fast swims, personal bests, and new National Championship qualifying times!

Jane Kavanagh swam outstandingly this weekend, highlighted by her new team records for the 13/14 100 Free (51.06), 200 Free (1:51.74), 13/14 500 Free (5:05.13) and 13/14 200 IM (2:04.91). Senior swimmer Billie Sherratt earned a new team record in the 15-18 400 IM with a time of 4:20.66. Braden Michaels also had a record-setting meet, breaking the FSPY 13/14 100 Back record with a 52.87 and the FSPY 13/14 200 Back record with a 1:53.96.

Sean Stanik qualified for his first YMCA Short Course National Championships in the 500 Free (4:43.91) and 200 Free (1:44.69). Maddie Goret achieved another qualifying time, swimming a 4:35.13 in the 400 IM. Kavanagh’s record-breaking 500 Free swim also earned her another qualification. Harrison McClure added more events to his qualifications, swimming a 4:11.89 in the 400 IM, a 53.81 in the 100 Back, and a 16:17.71 in the 1650 Free. Michaels’ team records in the 100 Back and 200 Back were also fast enough to qualify for the meet.
