23 FSPY Swimmers Make Waves at 12 & Under State Championships

At the 2023 NJ YMCA 12 & Under State Championships, 23 swimmers in the 12 and under groups from the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA’s (FSPY) Swim Team ended their short course season with amazing swims. Held at the Ocean County YMCA in Toms River from February 24-26, FSPY competed against 24 other YMCA teams from across the state and finished 5th place overall combined (with 4th place for the Girls and 7th place for the Boys).

Highlights from this fast-paced meet include several top 16 finishes in both FSPY’s 10/unders and 11-12s, as well as a new 11-12 Girls team record in the 200 Fly by Janice Yip with a time of 2:16.16.

Relays

The Girls 11-12 200 Medley Relay team of M. Ferreiro, Lucy Magee, Janice Yip and J. Bickoff finished in 5th place, with the Girls 10 and under Medley Relay team of S-A. Isleta, S. Lukov, M. Fevrier and K. Chung came in 2nd. The relay team of Janice Yip, M. Ferreiro, R. Ferreiro and Sabrina Bogatz placed 6th in the Girls 11-12 Free Relay, followed by a 4th place finish by the relay team of Achilleas Balakrishnan, D. Mora, J. Fevrier and D. Sidun in the Boys 11-12 Free Relay race. The 10 and under Girls relay team of S-A. Isleta, K. Chung, M. Fevrier and S. Lukov finished an impressive 2nd place in the Girls 200 Free Relay.
