232 Coronavirus Cases, 12 Deaths: Latest Scotch Plains Update
The latest on the coronavirus outbreak in Scotch Plains and Union County as of Monday, May 11.
SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — Scotch Plains is reporting a total of 232 confirmed cases and 12 deaths of the coronavirus as of Friday. Looking at the overall numbers, 5 percent of the confirmed cases in Scotch Plains have died.
Scotch Plains releases numbers weekly on Fridays.
"Things are starting to return to normal. Scotch Plains parks opened last Saturday, and the Scotch Hills Golf course opened this past Wednesday. The Chinese restaurants in town opened for takeout on Tuesday, and the Stage House Inn, Grillestone, and Scotchwood Diner also opened last week for takeout. Please support our local businesses that are open for takeout or curbside pickup," Mayor Al Smith stated.

Smith also encourage residents to practice good, safe health habits such as washing hands, cleaning surfaces, and social distancing with a mask when near other people less than six feet away.

Union County has a total of 14,164 cases and 875 deaths as of Monday, according to the state. Nursing home cases and deaths account for most of the township's cases.
