30 Elizabeth Employees Getting Laid Off When Pet Store Closes

The local Petland Discounts store is closing, along with 9 others, by March 19 following the death of the chain's founder.

ELIZABETH, NJ — The 30 employees of the Petland Discounts store will be laid off by next month following the death of the chain's founder, Neil Padron.

The Elizabeth location is one of 10 Petland Discounts stores closing by March 19.

More than 1,500 layoffs are planned at Petland Discounts and eight other businesses, including more than 500 after Conagra Brands closes its Parsippany and Cherry Hill offices.

The layoffs are among the more than than 1,500 layoffs planned Birdgewater Wholesalers and at eight other businesses, including more than 500 after Conagra Brands closes its Parsippany and Cherry Hill offices.

More than 120 people at the Allied Beverage Co., New Jersey's largest wine-and-spirits distributor, will also be laid off by March 20.
