Missing 83-Year-Old Scotch Plains Man Found In Edison

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — An 83-year-old Scotch Plains man who was reported missing by his daughter has been found on Friday afternoon.

Gerald Hughes was found in Edison in good health, Scotch Plains Police Capt. Jeffrey Briel said.

Hughes was reported missing after he was last seen leaving his daughter's home in Clark at 8 p.m. on July 18 and never returned to his Scotch Plains home, police said.

Hughes suffers from early onset dementia as well as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and had a triple bypass. He also needs to take medication daily, police said.

He is 5'6" tall, weights 172 pounds with brown eyes and gray hair. He also has a scar on his stomach area.

He was last seen wearing a white polo shirt, tan khakis, black belt, black socks, white New Balance sneakers, glasses, a gold watch and had his wallet.

He was driving a four-door, silver 2008 Toyota Avalon with license plate number KPB71Y.

A silver alert was also issued by the New Jersey State Police.
