SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — Scotch Plains will mark the nation's 250th anniversary with a Revolution 250 celebration on June 26 that includes the opening of a time capsule sealed in front of Town Hall in 1984.
The event begins at 4:30 p.m. with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Scotch Plains Baptist Church, with participation from the Sons of the American Revolution and Daughters of the American Revolution. A parade steps off from the church at 5 p.m., proceeding to the steps of Town Hall.
The time capsule will be unveiled at 5:30 p.m., followed by food and festivities on the Alan M. Augustine Village Green from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The historic Stage House Tavern will provide food. Local historic groups will also be on hand to share the town's heritage.
Reenactors portraying George Washington, Rochambeau, and a Dragoon Officer will be part of the celebration. Entertainment will be spread across Park Avenue, in front of Town Hall, and on the Village Green.
