SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — Two residents recently reported separate fraud-related incidents to the Scotch Plains Police Department, including a fraudulent credit card transaction and a suspicious phone call involving someone claiming to represent a federal banking agency.
According to police, a resident of Eastham Court reported that an unknown person used their credit card to purchase gift cards without authorization.
In a separate incident, a resident of Manitou Way reported receiving a phone call from someone claiming to be a representative of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) regarding alleged fraudulent activity on the resident's account.
Police said the resident became suspicious and ended the call before any money was lost.
No additional information about either incident was released by police.
