SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - Registration is open for the 9th annual Patrick's Downtown Race to Summer 5K, set for June 16 in downtown Scotch Plains — and runners who sign up before June 8 can lock in the early-bird price of $30 before the fee increases to $35.
Check-in runs from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on race day, with a Family Fun Run at 7 p.m. and the 5K starting at 7:30 p.m. The course begins and finishes across from the firehouse on Senger Place, the same route used in previous years.
Following the race, participants are invited to an after party with music and a BBQ donated by the Stage House Tavern on the Alan M. Augustine Village Green next to the Scotch Plains municipal building.
This year's registration includes a special commemorative T-shirt honoring the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
The race was started in 2015 by a group of local runners who wanted to promote downtown Scotch Plains, partnering with organizers of the Patrick J. Allocca Memorial 5K. It is supported by the Township of Scotch Plains and is part of the Mayor's Wellness Program.
As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, the race raises money for a range of local causes and recipients each year, including Camp Clover, a summer bereavement camp for children; Play for P.I.N.K.; the Scotch Plains Rescue Squad; the Scotch Plains Fire Department; the Immaculate Heart of Mary Food Pantry; the Jam Kancer in the Kan Foundation; the SPF Scholarship Foundation; and local families in need.
