Caller Claiming To Be From Apple Scams Union County Resident Out Of $7,500, Police Say

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — A Scotch Plains resident lost about $7,500 after a caller posing as an Apple security representative convinced them to purchase multiple gift cards, police said.

The resident, who lives on Rivervale Court, said the caller claimed there was a problem involving a purchase made through the resident's Apple Pay account.

The caller instructed the resident to buy multiple gift cards and provide the card numbers to settle the supposed charges.
