Fake Driver’s License, Altered Checks Among Fraud Cases Reported In Union County

Residents reported separate incidents involving personal information and stolen funds, police said.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — Two Scotch Plains residents reported separate fraud incidents, including one involving a New Jersey driver’s license with another person’s photo and another involving altered checks that resulted in thousands of dollars being lost, according to police.

In one case, a resident reported receiving a New Jersey driver’s license in the mail that contained their personal information but showed a photo of someone they did not recognize.

The resident told police they were unfamiliar with the person pictured on the license. No additional details were released about how the license was created or delivered.

In a separate incident, a resident reported that two checks sent through the mail were altered and later cashed by someone else, resulting in a loss of more than $4,200, according to police.

Police did not provide additional details about when the checks were changed or how the individuals involved obtained them.
