Another Successful Short Course National Championship for Team FSPY!

Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Swim Team

Twenty-nine of Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA’s (FSPY) swimmers represented the team at the 2024 YMCA Short Course Nationals. The meet took place at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in North Carolina and spanned across 5 days, from April 2-6. FSPY achieved a combined 9th place out of 172 teams across the country thanks to numerous best times, finals qualifiers, and record-breaking relays!

The FSPY National Team was comprised of the following swimmers:

Girls: Normandie Beversluis, Elle Cadigan, Ying Chow, Emily Constable, Maddie Goret, Phoebe Kaplan, Jane Kavanagh, Laura Kim, Brooke LaBarge, Clare Logan, Brooke McAndrew, Catherine Ritter, Billie Sherratt, Mya Uku, Gina Yip, Janice Yip, Chloe Yu

  • Girls 800 Free Relay – Sherratt, Logan, Kavanagh, Ritter (5th place)
  • Girls 200 Free Relay – Sherratt, Kavanagh, Cadigan, Logan (6th place)
  • Girls 400 Medley Relay – Logan, Constable, Sherratt, Kavanagh (2nd place)
  • Girls 400 Free Relay – Sherratt, Logan, Kavanagh, Ritter (3rd place)

The action-packed week also saw several new team records. Senior swimmers Constable and Sherratt made sure to cap their final short course national championship with new records—Constable in the 200 Breast with her time of 2:15.08, while Sherratt reset her own records in the 400 IM (4:19.75), 500 Free (4:54.54), and 200 Butterfly (1:58.70). Kavanagh set a new Girls 13-14 200 Free record with her time of 1:50.91. The Girls relay teams continued the record-breaking performance with the team of Logan, Constable, Sherratt, and Ritter breaking the Girls 200 Medley Relay record with a 1:40.76, while the team of Logan, Constable, Sherratt, and Kavanagh set a new mark in the 400 Medley Relay with a 3:39.39. In the 400 Freestyle Relay, the team of Sherratt, Logan, Kavanagh, and Ritter combined to set another new team record with a 3:24.21.
