Bicyclist Hit By Car While Trying To Cross Rt. 22 In Union
A bicyclist was trying to cross Rt. 22 to get to the center median when he was hit by a car on the westbound side Wednesday, police say.
UNION, NJ — A bicyclist who was trying to cross Route 22 in Union was hit by a car on Wednesday morning, police said.
At around 10:30 a.m. Ekinadose Lebarty, 24, of Irvington was driving a 2011 Nissan Versa in the left lane of Route 22 West when she hit bicyclist Marat Kurbanov, 35, of Newark near the Union Volkswagon dealership, Union Police Daniel Zieser said.
Kurbanov was reportedly trying to cross Route 22 West on his bike from the Volkswagon dealership towards Work N Gear in the center median at the time of the crash, police said.

Lebarty stayed at the scene and called 911. Kurbanov was taken to University Hospital with serious injuries.
The accident is being investigated by Officer Michael Cocca of the Union Police Department. Any person that may have witnessed the crash or its immediate aftermath is asked to call the Union Police Department Traffic Bureau at 908-851-5070.
