Bomb Threat Closes JCC In Scotch Plains

Breaking: A bomb threat was reported at the Jewish Community Center of Central New Jerse​y in Scotch Plains on Wednesday morning.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — A bomb threat reported Wednesday morning caused the Jewish Community Center of Central New Jersey in Scotch Plains to close temporarily, according to the JCC.

"This morning we received a telephone bomb threat to the JCC," according to an email sent out by the JCC. "We immediately contacted local law enforcement and safely evacuated the building."

Local police, county officers and a K-9 unit completed a full sweep of the interior, exterior and surrounding areas of the building. No explosives were found, and authorities deemed it safe to return inside the building.

"The police have assured us that this was a threat and it is safe to resume normal activities at the JCC," the JCC stated. "We thank our community for your cooperation and please know that we remain vigilant and committed to keeping our center safe and secure."

The center offers community programs for children of all ages and adults.
