The current spike in COVID-19 cases has put New Jersey in the top five states for new cases per capita. While the Omicron variant is believed to be less serious in terms of symptoms, it is also believed to be much more contagious.
COVID testing and vaccines are available across the state including our area. Home testing kits are available sporadically at local drug stores. The NJ Dept of Health has this online resource to help you find vaccinations and tests. It will guide you to testing and vaccine sites and offers free home testing kits through the mail. In addition, Atlantic Health offers testing at locations listed here.

The NJ Health Commissioner released a statement that indicated that NJ will reflect the recent CDC changes to isolation and quarantine guidance as their own. Here are the new isolation/quarantine guidelines.
The latest numbers for Fanwood as of the last week of December, 2021:
% 5-11 year olds with one dose: 45%
% 12-17 year olds with one dose: 91%
% boosted (out of those eligible): 51%
Our local health authority, the Westfield Regional Health Department, monitors COVID in our town regularly and offers weekly summaries of cases with an overview of testing and vaccines. It is in frequent contact with SPF Schools Superintendent Dr. Joan Mast about the best way to keep our public school students and staff safe.
Both local and national health experts agree that the best way to fight COVID is to be vaccinated and boosted. While there are breakthrough cases among the fully vaccinated, they are mostly less severe, mostly asymptomatic and don’t require hospitalization.
