As of February 3, 2022:

For the month of January 265 cases were reported in Fanwood residents. Broken down as follows (high risk categories only):

0-4 years old—16 cases5-9 years old—24 cases10-14 years old—26 cases15-19 years old—24 cases65-74 years old—16 cases75-84 years old—6 cases85+ 1 case

5-11 year old vaccine coverage (at least 1 dose): 52%

Booster rates:

12-15 year olds—20%16-17 year olds—37%18—29 year olds—53%30-49 year olds—62%50—64 year olds—63%65-79 year olds—71%80+ 69%

The NJ Dept of Health has reported that between Christmas and January 25th 4 children in NJ, under age 5, have died of COVID. Three of these children were under 10 months. To put these numbers into perspective, in a bad flu season (which lasts 6 months) we see 1-2 pediatric deaths. These numbers reiterate how important it is for us to protect our most vulnerable.

Testing

The federal government is making free home testing kits available to all Americans. You can get up to four per address by going to covidtests.gov.

The state of New Jersey also has free testing kits available. Sign up for yours here. These tests require the assistance of a live person on a ZOOM call and require you to mail it in to get the results.

Vaccine Clinics

Vaccines and boosters are still seen as the best defense against COVID. Union County offers free vaccines and boosters. Sign up online at https://ucnj.org/covid19/, which is also a good overall resource for County COVID resources.

Borough operations continue uninterrupted, both virtually and in person. If you have business at Borough Hall, you must wear a mask. It is open during its regular posted hours. However, all of our professionals are available by phone. If you can accomplish your business by phone or virtually, please do so. You may leave tax payments and other paperwork in the dropbox outside the Borough Hall front door.
