ON OR ABOUT AUGUST 18-September 18, The Borough of Fanwood, in a joint shared service agreement with the PARSA, will be cleaning the sanitary sewers in your neighborhood. PARSA is the Plainfield Area Regional Sewerage Authority, and it is responsible for treating Fanwood’s sewerage. They also provide the cleaning service at a cheaper rate overusing a contractor to do the work.
It is anticipated that the work will take about a month to complete and will be completed, weather permitting between the hours of 7:30 AM until approximately 4:30 PM each day.

The cleaning of the sewers is done with high-powered jets that access the sewer mains through the manholes in the roadways. No access will be needed to get into your houses. Additionally, no traffic or parking restrictions are expected, and no impact should be expected by the residents during the flushing of the sewer mains.
However, there have been occasional circumstances where the cleaning has caused a “burping” effect, that pushes air back into residential sewer lines and releases in the bathrooms.
This project is funded through the Sewer Utility fees and is part of a 5-year program that is required by NJDEP.
Should you have any issues, please call the Department of Public Works at 908-322- 7404 and we will contact the appropriate people to address any issues.
