Brief: Fanwood Cut-Over to Union County Dispatch Complete
The transition went 'smoothly,' Fanwood says.

Shortly before noon last Wednesday, Union County assumed control of dispatch operations for Fanwood's police, fire and emergency medical services. The "cut-over" from Fanwood to the dispatch center in the Union County Police headquarters on North Avenue in Westfield started at about 9 a.m. Wednesday, county spokesperson Sebastian D'Elia said in a telephone interview. Dispatch, phone, 911 and emergency services were not interrupted during the transfer, and it was complete after several hours.
Fanwood entered the dispatch agreement with Union County in April as a cost-saving measure. The borough is reimbursing the county for the cost of extra personnel needed to oversee Fanwood's dispatch operations, but the county estimated that Fanwood will ultimately save about $230,000 over the first three years.
