Brush, Garbage Can Fires Reported In Scotch Plains

Scotch Plains Police also reported making multiple arrests on charges of marijuana possession and outstanding warrants.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — Scotch Plains Police reported responding to two fires in the township last week.

On March 27, officers responded to the area of Ternay Avenue and Morse Avenue on a report of a brush fire.

Officer Scott Leyden was unable to put the fire out upon his arrival. The Scotch Plains Fire Department responded and was able to extinguish it with no property damage.

No injuries were reported.

On March 28, officers responded to a garbage can fire on Park Avenue. Officers were able to put fire out upon their arrival.

Scotch Plains Fire Department responded as a precaution.

On March 26: Armando Rubi, 34, of Hollywood, Florida was arrested on outstanding warrants out of Clark and Woodbridge during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Patrolman Ted Florio. Rubi was transported to headquarters and processed.

On March 27: Germain G. Cano, 40, of Maplewood was arrested for possession of marijuana during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Patrolman Mike Smolinski. Cano was transported to headquarters and processed.

On March 27: A resident on Monica Place reported the theft of their front license plate. Plate has been entered stolen. This remains under investigation.

On March 28: Eric C. Favor, 27, of Hillside was arrested for possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of weapons during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Patrolman Scott Leyden. Favor was transported to headquarters and processed.

On March 28: Meng Sloane, 22, of Jersey City was arrested for obstruction of justice for failing to cooperate with Patrolman Luciano during a motor vehicle stop. Sloane was transported to headquarters and processed.

On March 29: A resident on Country Club Lane reported a fraud. Someone gained access to the victim’s credit card information and made unauthorized charges. This remains under investigation.

On March 29: Michele L. Gannon, 25, of Kunkletown Pennsylvania was arrested for possession of marijuana during a suspicious motor vehicle investigation conducted by Patrolman Bryan Frew and Patrolman Charlie Tripet. Also, arrested during the investigation was Bowman D. Alonte, 26, of Irvington on an active warrant out of Irvington. Both parties were transported to headquarters and processed.

On April 1: Markus A. Hand, 23, of East Orange was arrested for possession of marijuana during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Patrolman Eric Fricks. He also had active warrants out of East Orange and the Essex County Sheriff’s Department. Hand was transported to headquarters and processed.
