PLAINFIELD, NJ — A non-school-related car crash outside of a Plainfield school caused the school to be placed in lockdown Friday morning, school officials said.

The crash was reported in front of Clinton Elementary School at 1302 West Fourth St. in Plainfield on Friday.

"A community member was involved in car accident in front of the school. The school went into lockdown as a precautionary safety measure," a Plainfield School Spokeswoman Gloria Montealegre said.

As of 11:30 a.m., the kindergarten through fifth grade school is now out of lockdown and has resumed a normal day schedule. All students and staff members are safe, Montealegre said.
